  by darren chamberlain (http://freshmeat.net/users/dlc/)
Saturday, February 10th 2001 13:57

bashlib is a shell script that makes CGI programming in bash easier, or at
least more tolerable. It contains a few functions that get called
automatically to parse incoming form parameters, keywords, and cookies, and
builtin functions to access this data. It is very well documented and can
be extended very easily.

Changes: Initial freshmeat announcement; most of the script has been
rewritten and cleaned up.

[004] - bayonne 0.5.16 (Default)
  by David Sugar (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidsugar/)
Saturday, February 10th 2001 15:11

Bayonne is the telephony server of the GNU project. Bayonne offers a script
driven threaded multiline state event telephony service for building voice
response systems and telephony plugins for runtime driver configuration.
Bayonne also features "TGI" for making perl applications "telephony aware".
Bayonne may be used to build telephony based system administration, home
automation, automated attendent, v-commerce, and voice messaging systems.

Changes: Some basic support has been added for more easily integrating
Apache-hosted web services such as click-to-dial links. Bayonne integrated
customer contact solutions has been introduced as a forerunner of
distributed Bayonne ACD functionality, as well as a restructuring of
Bayonne plugin architecture around Modules and Policies for expanding
outbound dialing capabilities. This release brings Voicetronix support
current in Bayonne and fixes all known issues with it.

Saturday, February 10th 2001 13:36

Cyrix is a multi-functional chat server that was designed to service thin
clients (telnet, netcat, etc.). It incorporates much of the functionality
and reliability that is expected from chat daemons, but also gives the user

[011] - DansGuardian 0.7.2 (Default)
  by Daniel Barron (http://freshmeat.net/users/dansguardian/)
Saturday, February 10th 2001 13:00

DansGuardian is a filtering proxy that uses Squid to do all the fetching.
It filters using four methods. First, it checks the actual content of the
pages against a configurable denied phrase list. This list will contain
profanities and phrases often associated with pornography and other
undesirable content. Second, it implements PICS filtering. Third it checks
the MIME type of the requested file and checks this against a configurable
denied MIME type list. Fourth it checks the file extension of the requested
file against a configurable denied file extension list. The filtering has a
configurable url exception list. It does not implement a url check against
a list of sites like squidGuard; it checks the actual content of the pages.

Changes: Filtering by both by MIME type and file extension in addition to
content and PICS filtering, changing the running user ID to squid from root
for added security, a fix for a bug with the denied reporting URL code,
removal of all compiler warnings by correct casting, a fix for a bug in

[035] - mpg321 0.0.2 (Development)
  by Joe Drew (http://freshmeat.net/users/hoserhead/)
Saturday, February 10th 2001 04:34

mpg321 is a command-line mp3 player, based on the smpeg library. It is
designed to be a drop-in replacement of mpg123, and therefore its interface
has been designed around that shown by mpg123, without using any of its
code. It currently has enough functionality to run gqmpeg (at the least).

Changes: This release includes a fix for some free()ing of buffers, a fix
for no-op instructions which take parameters, a -q/--quiet command, updated
installation instructions, and garbage being sent to stdout has been
removed.

[036] - NISCA 1.01 beta (Default)
  by Brett Baugh (http://freshmeat.net/users/Phee/)
Saturday, February 10th 2001 04:25

NISCA (Network Interface Statistics Collection Agent) is a more flexible
PHP4-based MRTG replacement. It supports both SNMP and reading localhost's
/proc/net/dev device file directly for statistics gathering. It uses MySQL
to store collected data in, and stores statistics for bytes transferred,
packets transferred, transfer errors, and dropped packets separated into a
per interace incoming and outgoing set. An SNMP setup utility is provided
to generate a list of all the known interfaces, which eases setting up. It
generates both graphs and a textual report table using the data from any
timeframe contained in the database. The entire package runs using PHP4; it
uses the CGI binary version of PHP for stats collection (running in the
backround as a daemon) and either the CGI or Apache module versions to
generate the GUI form and reports. It can also import your existing MRTG
logfiles.

Changes: This release includes a script to allow the importing of MRTG log
files.

[037] - Openwall Linux kernel patch 2.2.18-ow4 (Default)
  by Solar Designer (http://freshmeat.net/users/solardiz/)
Saturday, February 10th 2001 16:17

The Openwall Linux kernel patch is a collection of security "hardening"
features for the Linux kernel. In addition to the new features, some
versions of the patch contain various security fixes. The "hardening"
features of the patch, while not a complete method of protection, provide
an extra layer of security against the easier ways to exploit certain
classes of vulnerabilities and/or reduce the impact of those
vulnerabilities. The patch can also add a little bit more privacy to the
system by restricting access to parts of /proc so that users may not see
what others are doing.

Changes: Fixes for the two recently announced Linux kernel vulnerabilities

Saturday, February 10th 2001 13:31

Perl DNSTools consists of a main Perl program that will parse your DNS
tree, giving you a listing via stdout, or inserting the information into a
MySQL database. It can then generate a DNS tree (or a single domain entry)
via the database into any directory specified. Also included in the package
is a Perl-CGI for managing the database and a Perl cron that will check to

Changes: Generation of JavaScript to ensure user enters values for fields
marked as required, SETUP.PHP marks 'not_null' fields as required by
default, and PHPMyEdit.PHP no longer requires 'sort_open_tag' to be set to
false. You may enable/disable filter functionality via $OPTIONS (to use
the filter functionality, you must now have 'F' in $OPTIONS in your calling

[051] - Simkin 1.12 (Default)
  by Simon Whiteside (http://freshmeat.net/users/swhiteside/)
Saturday, February 10th 2001 14:28

Simkin is a scripting language for Java/XML. Simkin is designed to let your
users control all or part of your Java application. They write scripts in a
very simple scripting language which can be embedded in XML. The scripts
can call down into the API you've exposed from your Java classes. You write
the mechanism, your users write the policy.

Changes: Support for a null object, a new enumerate() method to enumerate

Unitee is a Java testing framework and application used to build effective
test cases in Java, as an alternative to JUnit. Unlike JUnit, management
of the test data and the building of test cases and test suites are done

written and reused. The project goals are configurability - seperation of
the test case code from the test data, developer productivity - very little
overhead for test cases' code, keeping test management seperate from test
cases theselves, and test case reusability.

[059] - wrr 010210 (Default)
  by Christian Worm Mortensen (http://freshmeat.net/users/cwm2/)
Saturday, February 10th 2001 16:33

The WRR scheduler is an extension to the Linux 2.2 kernels. It is able to
distribute the bandwidth to different machines at a site in a fair way. As
a default every machine will get equally much of the bandwidth if they have
sufficient demand, but it is possible to make machines transferring much
data over a long or short period of time get less bandwidth. A
plug-and-play ready set of scripts setting up such behavior based on a
configuration file is included. The scripts sets up a Linux bridge which
must be placed between the router and the rest of the site.

Changes: A fix for a critical bug that could make the machine hang, and
support for shaping in both directions on masquerading firewalls. The
example setup is much more general, useful, and less complicated; it
supports masquerading firewalls and bridges out of the box.

for TCP/IP or UDP data transfer between two systems. This allows traffic
such as telnet, FTP, and X to be protected from snooping as well as
potentially gaining performance over low-bandwidth networks from
compression. The main goals for Zebedee are to provide full client and
server functionality under both UNIX and Windows 95/98/NT, to be easy to

use only algorithms that are either unpatented or for which the patent has
expired.
