This change can't cause a segfault in FreeType, I think.

The same here. This change can't cause a segfault in FreeType.  It
seems that those modifications trigger a bug somewhere else (maybe
even in FreeType but I doubt that).

Perhaps you can contact the Mozilla or galeon team for assistance...
