Hello

I am looking at using something like the Infinality patches to Freetype as the basis \
for a desktop environment for developing webfonts, i.e. i' want the ability of \
switching types of hinting & antaliasing in Freetype to 'emulate' different OS \
rendering states. So i can test fonts for different OS states from one desktop.

Ideally i want to have a small widget that, with a menu + mouse click, can switch \
rendering modes on the fly - like the gnome 'appearance - fonts' switcher but able to \
tweak a lot more than just hinting, antialias, simple lcd filter.

So... are there any aspects of the Freetype rendering engine that cannot be switched \
on the fly? What needs restart of the x-server?

Any advice / info much appreciated.

many thanks

vernon
