OpenSUSE Leap 15.4

I use xterms a lot and am currently plagued by the message "No protocol specified" \
whenever I do anything with an xterm. There are many complaints about this message on \
the web, but apparently no explanations or solutions of the problem. Can such \
messages be diverted to /dev/null or equivalent, rather than their proliferation \
completely obscuring the content of the xterm I happen to be working with?
