No, after 3500s DPMS switches to suspend, even when keys are pressed
just before.

Why should this work? I have several desktop systems with exactly the
same xorg and xset versions, and there is no problem. I'm quite sure,
that the issue is related to my input device (the IR remote control).

Isn't there a method to debug that problem? For example to see what
events are generated and how they affect the DPMS timer?
