This is correct, yes.

Unfortunately, no, the r300-r500 radeon graphics driver does not support
multisampling. That said, since there's now a graphics memory manager in
place, it should be possible to add that to the driver. When I glanced
over the docs a while back it seemed quite simple to get the hardware to
do msaa (just set some regs up to enable AA, program sample positions
etc., then do resolve step) actually, but maybe there are some traps
somewhere :-).
