Well, from what I can see it doesn't look like the synaptoics driver is 
  prepared for anisotropic device coordinates. Could be added I guess.

Right. Unfortunately nothing that will buy you a thing. I.e. if I 
haven't missed something, you've got to live with it/make a patch/file a 
bug.
