Disabling DDC will give you back control.

    NoDDC "True"

Then you can use the Modes to force what you want with any non VESA
modes added via modelines.

DDC/EDID support in X is weak, atleast in the i810 and unichrome drivers 
even with
modesetting, at the moment.
