Earlier this morning cvs seemed to be working just fine.

Now I get this:

# cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xorg co -P xc                   
cvs [checkout aborted]: unrecognized auth response from cvs.freedesktop.org: \
/usr/local/sbin/cvs-pserver: line 36: exec: chroot_safe: not found
