Hi all,

I would like to release a third beta for xdg-utils by the end of this
week in order to make the latest updates to the test suite available.

I had also wanted to include some fixes in the utils themselves to fix
the issues that we see mostly on Debian and Debian derived
distributions. Unfortunately it doesn't seem I will have time for that
this week and next week I will be on vacation. If someone else could
take a look into these issues within the next two weeks that would be
very helpful. Details below.

*) Some version of Debian, and possibly others, don't install xsltproc
by default. Xdg-mime relies on xsltproc to convert XDG style mime type
definitions in XML into KDE .mimelnk files. The usage of xsltproc needs
to e converted to something like awk. See
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7759

*) test_menu_user_install fails. Note that this should be tested as a
regular user, not as root, which may (or may not) be the reason it
didn't show up in 7734 and 7748.
(See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7725 )

*) test_menu_system_install fails with the error message:
xdg-desktop-menu: No writable system menu directory found.
The cause of the error message is believed to be fixed in CVS but the
test probably still fails for the same reasons as
test_menu_user_install. Should be verfied once test_menu_user_install is
fixed.
(See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7725 ,
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7734 ,
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7748 )

*) test_simple_menu_item_user_install also has a tendency to fail but
that's due to the fact that there is no Category line the .desktop file.
Will be corrected in the test suite.
