As partially discussed on IRC, attached is an example autotool'ed
pm-utils package.
I'm missing a few of the files as it's incomplete (and it certainly
needs polish), but it passed make distcheck just fine.
I figure using autotools buys us:
* a "make dist" that works (without pulling cvs every time we make an
archive, not everyone has a fast connection)
* the ability to trivially add "make check" so we can check the scripts
* a way to support other os's changing directories or compiling things
another way depending on OS detection.
* ready debugged install script that all distros can use.
* so we match 90% of the other oss software out there, rather than
relying on a custom Makefile that might need to be patched.
* free intl, so we could translate the applications if we were required
to.
Although autotool is pretty crap, it's the standard for OSS and I think
we should be using it.
Richard.
