Sorry, my objection on behalf of these special cases was in fact spurious - the with-session-bus.sh I added to telepathy-glib in version 0.7.0 invokes dbus-daemon directly, rather than via dbus-launch (which turns out to be just as easy, if you have write access to some directory). Perhaps we could point people who want to write "isolated" regression tests to that script? It's available from http://darcs.collabora.co.uk/darcs/telepathy/telepathy-glib/ (look in tools/with-session-bus.sh) if anyone's interested.
