Hello John,
and thanks, I've done that and shell has successfully accepted the new variable \
LD_LIBRARY_PATH and its value "/lib:/usr/lib" (I've verified it by #echo \
$LD_LIBRARY_PATH, it returned /lib:/usr/lib)
but unfortunately the situation is the same. The ls command still returns the same \
error.

If you know where the shared libraries are (e.g. /lib and /usr/lib) try doing
'export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/lib:/usr/lib' in your shell first (or use setenv if
using csh).
