compare the output of arp -a in both states.
(you can use a script to capture it while 'asleep')

I see two possibilities:
1/ the 'box in the office' needs to be told about your machine or
2/ there is an arp/IP clash or netmask misconfiguration.
what is the new IP address you are using (compared to to the old one).
it's not .0 or .15 or anything silly right?
