Yes, this works as intended.

You can also use xinput to enable tapping, if you don't want to edit xorg
configs.  I have the following in my .xinitrc (but for synaptics touchpads, you
have to check the name of your device)

xinput --set-prop 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad' 'libinput Tapping Enabled' 1
