I Think DBAN (Derik's boot and nuke) had been mentioned before...... there
is a CD ISO for PowerPC arch that has been contributed on source
forge..(http://dban.sourceforge.net/ ).. this is an awesome tool for your
use. it is open source, and allows you to boot into the environment and do
simple disk wiping or more elaborate DOD type multiple random wipes.
With the use of this tool you can boot from the CD tell it which method to
wipe  and let it go, That frees you, or your disk wiping lackey to do other
stuff.
