i copied xml conf you did, replace the directory
(copied only arial.ttf in that directory (both bold an normal))

from my java class instanciate config.xml

try {
   fopFactory.setUserConfig(new 
File("/sgcv10/software/OpenCM/Files/ALI/Conf/config.xml"));
  } catch (SAXException e) {
   // TODO Auto-generated catch block
   e.printStackTrace();
  } catch (IOException e) {
   // TODO Auto-generated catch block
   e.printStackTrace();

and nothing....i'm running in SOLARIS....

No, you can mix absolute and relative paths. If you have an absolute
path in the "font-base" it is simply ignored if you specify an absolute
path for "directory".
