Hi.  I found a work around today.  I have to use FOP because I don't have
time to switch to something else.  I tried the block-container but the
overflowed block content is still not visible.  While I was playing with the
block parameters, I found that if I set the text-align-last parameter to
'end' for the blocks with small column widths, the block content is
displayed to the right of the right-hand side block border and is not
covered by the block in the adjacent cell.  That's good enough for
government work ;).
