So you should be OK, then--the current dbus and dbus-shlibs should be
installed.  We probably had better check that they're completely installed:

$ dpkg -l dbus dbus-shlibs
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err:
uppercase=bad)

ii  dbus           1.2.12-10      Message bus system for applications
ii  dbus-shlibs    1.2.12-10      Message bus system for applications

If you don't have ii by both of those, then something got confused, and
the status code may help decide on a course of action to follow.
