Woops, it seems after a few checks that the problem might be on
my side: it seems that ftp traffic is not allowed at the site I'm
at (I'll check with the sysadmin as soon as I can corner him).
Sorry for polluting the list.
I did though try to run 'fink install evolution' while at home
with a dial-up connection, and it failed there too. As I am
currently in Moscow, I am not quite sure whether my dial-up provider
lets ftp traffic trhough though.

Since however I am stuck here with no access to ftp for
a whole year (I doubt very much I can convince the sysadmin to
authorize it if the problem is indeed that it is unauthorized),
is there a way to fetch through http packages that are normally
available through http?

Btw I was a little quick in saying that downloading the libsoup tarball
available at
http://archive.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs-museum/5.1/BLFS-BOOK-5.1-HTML/basicnet/libsoup.html

worked: I wrote this when the compilation began, but the compilation
failed with the following errors:

Before reporting any errors, please run "fink selfupdate" and
try again. If you continue to have issues, please check to see if the
FAQ on fink's website solves the problem. If not, ask on the fink-users
or fink-beginners mailing lists. As a last resort, you can try e-mailing
the maintainer directly:
