I had that problem when I compiled XMMS myself. It turns out you need 
to run this perl script from the info file.
perl -pi -e 's/^#define.*SYMBOL_PREFIX.*$//g' config.h
perl -pi -e 's/^#define.*SYMBOL_PREFIX.*$//g' libxmms/config.h
