Okay. That fixed the problem, but has introduced another.
(commonly referred to as sods law I believe).
The error tells me that im possibly running a voice which is not compatible 
with the machine architecture, yet, I downloaded the most uptodate version 
from the website.
Could this be caused by an installation error/problem?

/festival/lib/voices/english/en1_mbrola/en1
incompatible
with your machine architecture.
Get the right one from the MBROLA project homepage :
   http://tcts.fpms.ac.be/synthesis
   Cannot open file /tmp/est_02177_00000.au as tokenstream
   Wave load: can't open file "/tmp/est_02177_00000.au"
   Cannot load wavefile: /tmp/est_02177_00000.au
