Other than the base, how is the device? I would use it to show small
organisms to my daughters (6 and 8), not for electronics work. I am
actually interested in the resolution at the high end of the
magnification spectrum.

From where did you buy yours? Is it this same 5 megapixel, 500x
magnification model?
