That's exactly the case. In their case, I think they're still using the
2-week iteration to select a chunk of work for more attention and
discussion than the deeper backlog. Although they have an extended plan,
the details are still pretty fluid, and they're good at avoiding the
excess mental re-work that comes when you design too much, too soon.
I could easily see them breaking those cycles, and ending up with
something more like Josh's iterationless, more flexible planning cycles.

They were certainly valuable for this team early on. They definitely
didn't limit themselves to the past week, and they eventually ended up
with a "BOLO board", tracking ongoing issues that they wanted to "Be On
the LookOut" for. But each meeting ended up being more than fully
packed, with probably twice as many proposed agenda items as were
actually discussed.
These days I understand things are running pretty smoothly, so it sounds
like your intuitions and theirs match quite well.

feel like they're not making stuff fast enough, but I see near zero
correlation between that feeling and actual productivity levels, so I
never know what to make of that.
