that was a known problem with 2.4.18-3smp.  2.4.18-4 fixed it.

I found one other very very rare case that could cause the same
problem in 2.4.18-4, but I've been on vacation for 2 weeks so it isn't
checked in yet, but for 99.99% of users 2.4.18-4 fixes this.
