A long, long time ago I had amavis working with exim3.  I've
now forgotten the details and I doubt that I kept any of the
configuration files.  So I'll endorse the above remarks!

If you're committed to amavis, you might care to look at:

http://www.ijs.si/software/amavisd/

for what seems to be a far more developed version.

You'll find many enthusiastic exim4 + exiscan users on this list.
The *really* nice feature of exiscan is that you can reject stuff
after the DATA phase if you don't like the look of it.  I'm not
aware of other email scanners that have this capability.
