I see the same thing, and have since many versions ago. I asked about
it once on irc, but never got an explanation. My theory is this: I run
evolution on a laptop, and I completely change my network environment
twice a day (when I go home and when I come into work). If I start
evolution from work, it works great and without problems until I go
home. Then, when I go home, if I try to use evolution to render a page
that has to pull images from the internet, it's unable to, and I see
exactly the type of hang you describe. I have to killev it, restart it,
then all works fine, until I go to work the next day. Rinse, repeat,
etc.

Galeon also exhibits this really, really annoying feature, but galeon
eventually times out and somehow manages to figure the change in network
settings out. gnome-pilot suffers from this same annoyance--as part of
my "change my network settings to my home setup now" script has to kill
gnome-pilot and restart it, or else it dies trying to sync my AvantGo
stuff.

So, my theory is that there's some gnome/evolution/galeon/mozilla
component that is caching DNS servers or routing information and not
recognizing a change in network addresses/DNS servers. Does anybody
have any thoughts/insight into this? And Robert, do you have a similar
setup where your network routing/DNS servers change in between when you
notice this problem and when evolution works fine?
