I've also tested this, and found the same results that Mike did last week. I 
get "Discovered, Active" for the state for the three raid-1's and the raid-0. 
Which version of EVMS are you using? Perhaps this was a bug in EVMS 2.3.x 
that's been fixed in 2.4.x.
