Hmmmm.  When I initially created the volume and mounted it on /mnt, I did
quite a bit of I/O when I copied the contents of the old /var to the new
one.  That worked fine.  Still, I can't imagine that evms is crapping out on
my system since we know it's more stable than that.

    MZ> I've never used the BBR feature, but I use ext3 on EVMS quite
    MZ> heavily, and it is known to work and be stable.

I'll try removing the BBR feature and trying again.
