One of the major benefits of using Open Source Software is the fact that you
will have full access to all of the source code. In practice this means
that, if people either don't have the answer to your problems or lack the
time to solve your problems for you, you will at least be able to help
*yourself*.

Of course another way to deal with your problem could be something like the
following. Place two new sniffer systems on your networks. Place the first
sniffer 'A' on the same physical network as the eth0 on your router is
attached to, and sniffer 'B' on the same physical network as the eth1 of
your router, and then compare *these* two capture times to measure the
processing time of the router. You will have to make sure that the clocks of
these two sniffer systems are accurately synchronised, though.

Or maybe you can think of other alternatives that will prevent you from
having to deal with the Linux source code ?
