Greetings,

Thanks for the advice.  So I can start the mpi-enabled R from eshell, but
when I type M-x ess-remote r, it fails with the message, "No ESS process is
associated with this buffer now."  R continues to run, but ess does not
recognize it.

Also, is it possible to incorporate these steps into my init.el file so it
will start the mpi-enabled R every time?
