I git-bisected this down to commit 
91515990c83ecda97c597fd498140896be0bc547
Removed --with-gc and CONFIG_GC related code.

and I checked that at the commit before this one, there is no crash with 
--with-gc and there is a crash with --without-gc. But of course there 
should be no crash even with --without-gc so the fix is not to revert 
that commit.

Try reset, even if you can't read what you are typing.
