On a Pentium /Mandrake10.0/cooker with 
kernel 2.6.7rc2
X11 R6.7 from X.org (xorg-x11-6.7.0-0.2.2.3mdk)
The board is an ATI Rage Pro (PCI)

I downloaded the precompiled binaries 20040616 and tried 20040614 and
experienced the same kernel freeze:
I have no problem building the driver, everything goes well.
When i restart X, everything is ok and glxinfo says that Direct
Rendering is ON.

dmesg says :
mach64: no version for "struct_module" found: kernel tainted.
[drm] Initialized mach64 1.0.0 20020904 on minor 0: ATI Technologies Inc
3D Rage Pro 215GP[drm] Used old pci detect: framebuffer loaded

The problems begin when i test the 3D : glxgears,bounce...
Nothing appears on the screen, the computer hangs, but in fact
it seems to be stuck in an infinite loop (there is some disk activity).
(i have to reboot manually).

I found somme answer in /var/log/kernel/errors

these messages are repeated several times, sometimes with a different
address.

Then, i found several Megs of garbage in /var/log/info about drm, but
the beginning seems interesting :
