This might be the case for me aswell;
I compiled the kernel with gcc-3.2 (90% sure), and XFree86 (the debian
.deb) was probably compiled with gcc-2.95.x.
I'll recompile my kernel with gcc-2.95.x (probably this weekend) and
give it a go ...
