The problem is 110% solved, glxinfo finally reports direct rendering.

Downloaded latest Mesa&Mesa-devel RPMs and installed.
Corrected /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 to point where it should

   cd /usr/lib
   rm libGL.so.1
   ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1 libGL.so.1
