I can report the following:

I have X 4.1.0 + DRI successfully running on kernel 2.4.7.
I also managed to get the ATI gatos stuff patched in for
video and atiXV support. Don't ask how cause I don't
remember, and the procedure was not well documented.

XV (xawtv) works great for video in. There is no video
out support for the rage theatre based cards. glmovie
(from the smpeg package), xawtv and Xine work nicely and
in fullscreen. DRI is fast. How fast I'm not sure
since I'm currently cpu bound. (soon to be remedied I
hope :) There is no T&L support in the DRI driver yet,
so don't expect 3d scores as high as in /other/ platforms
just yet, but I still get a respectable 50-150 FPS in
Q3A in 16bpp @ 640x480 in vertex mode w/o dynamic lighting.
(like I said, I'm cpu bound so I leave the eye candy off)

Unfortunately, I can't run any XV apps after any GL apps
w/o a total system lock-up. If, however, I restart X
after running any GL apps, it usually doesn't lock up.
(although X has just up and died with a sig11 on occasion).

I haven't tried the latest DRI CVS, kernel 2.4.9 or the
latest gatos CVS, so it may have improved since.

About the only thing that's been dissappointing about the
radeon is the image quality. I believe there are impedance
issues on the card--that they aren't terminating the cable
as well as they ought to because I get both ghosting in
my image, and the signal isn't totally steady. (if I
examine it up close, I can see little dots flickering
about). My G400 with the exact same set up is absolutely
crisp, so I don't suspect the monitor nor the cabling.
But, I like the 3d performance so I live with it.

Nick
