Short answer is yes( if they are under a current maintenance contract), you can \
upgrade and yes you can transfer the license to a hardware only appliance – the \
system name ( hostname ) must remain the same or you will need to submit a request \
for a change.
Upgrading the firmware on existing ds003 appliances, which are the sr1200( dual \
Pentium3 with 512 mb ram) or FE200s.
So you can run Dragon 7 in the sr1200 with caveat – per the 7.2+ release notes:
The FE/GE-200 appliance will be supported with the Dragon 7.2 appliance image if the \
following conditions are
met. Please note that older version of Dragon 7x are not supported, IPS will not be \
supported, and performance will
not be guaranteed
SysKonnect nic cards must be replaced with Intel based nic cards
Memory must be upgraded to 1 gig if used as a sensor, 2 gig if used as an EMS
The more significant issue is of support. These appliance come off support at the \
end of this year(EOSL) Dec 31 2006.
These appliances will not support any upgrade beyond 7.x So after the effort and \
expense of upgrading the service life is still constrained to about maybe 1 year out.
I have been suggesting to my customer to budget for hardware upgrades an to take \
advantage of the economic efficiencies associated with bigger appliance and virtual \
sensors if physically possible.
A current ge500 and easily handle the load of 2 fe200. Lower administration, lower \
maintenance cost, longer life span and as the need to greater speed is introduced you \
can spin a virtual sensor of a new appliance( which needs to be purchased and \
licensed) but you are not carry the cost of the device while the performance \
requirement is not there.
This is the rational that I have leading with and we have several customers that \
still have lot's of fe200s.
k.

Subject: [Dragonidsuser] Licensing options
What are our upgrade options with the dragon 5.0 appliances? The situation is 2 x \
DS003 and 1 x DS006 still under contract running 6.0 firmware.
Can these appliance be upgraded to be for 7.x compatible?
Is the license transferable to new hardware?
Since everything is still under contract can the licenses be upgraded to 7.x
Thanks!
