I do not qualify doxygen with any Linux distribution specifically (other than the
one I use to compile the binary, which is Ubuntu 12.04 at the moment).

I'm pretty sure that if you would compile doxygen from source on a Red Hat 5 system,
it would work fine.

Note that the "kernel too old" message is not something doxygen produces itself, 
it comes from glibc, saying that the version of glibc used for compiling doxygen is 
not compatible with your distribution's Linux kernel.
