thanks for the tip - I gonna try it, and tell you (and the community) about
my experience next week. My C-ish files are not this complex, so maybe the
broken toolchain does not affect my work-around.

Boostbook contains tools to do this

Although it seems that recent changes to the doxygen xml output have broken
the toolchain:
