I only replied now because running ipchains when the interface is not up 
causes the whole boot process to hang ( grrrr!!!! ), so I have to get a 
rescue disk and remove the /etc/dhclient-exit-hooks.


The man page for dhclient-script does not include the state / operation 
RELEASE, although trying it out with /etc/dhclient-exit-hooks, there is 
a RELEASE state ( as per RFC ).
