This has nothing to do with being able to use the dhclient or any or the
other dhcp clients on a Linux box.  This has to do with the fact that many
other Unixes (Solaris, and some others), all you need to do to configure
DHCP on the client is to specify in as an ifconfig (or ipconfig) command
line argument.

    Unfortunately, I cannot use ipconfig (init code of the kernel) because
  my ethernet is PCMCIA and not detected at boot.
