No, it was just random coincidence.
I still can't see any reason why in two machines, running the same 
kernel "2.6.38-2-686 #1 SMP Sun May 8 14:49:45 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux"
the permissions on "/" are different.

One machine:
