Good question :-) Well, "i386-gnu" is the string used by GNU tools
(binutils, gcc, etc.) to describe the "GNU operating system" (i.e. the one
having a Hurd kernel). In fact, the original name of this cross-compiler
package (used in the first releases of the Hurd's hackers kit) was
`i386-gnu-gcc', but I think it is nicer to have the "gcc" thing at the
beginning of the package name (as already happens with other cross tools
in Debian).

Since it will have "extra" priority, I expect people to read the
description of the package before installing it, at least, so this should
not be a cause of confusion, IMHO.
