One of the advantages in the tradeoff between "bloat" and minimalism is that KDE is fully relocatable in theory, starting with 3.2 even user settings can be reassigned (roaming). Still, this is a doubly-edged sword, as many applications still include hardcoded paths. So some upstream work needs to be done first, even more so in apps that follow a less unified scheme.
