The Body of Biometrics Technologies, Applications, Measurements, and Standards
September 22, 1998
Marriott Wardman Park Hotel
2660 Woodley Road
N.W., Washington, D.C.
Overview
The vision of a digital economy, the future of electronic commerce and the
increasingly important role it will play in the global economy, in
business, in government, and in our personal lives will, in part, depend on
the enabling information technologies that will make the digital economy
happen.
In addition to their important role as enabling technologies for
identification and law enforcement, biometrics technologies are being
recognized as crucial enabling technologies to the success of a secure,
global electronic commerce.
As the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, William M. Daley states in his letter
introducing the report, "The Emerging Digital Economy" produced by the U.
S. Department of Commerce, "much work remains to be done in order to
further our understanding of the emerging digital economy and how
electronic commerce and information technologies will be put to use as we
enter the next century. Government and the private sector must continue to
closely examine the implications of electronic commerce and information
technologies in order to make the right policy and business decisions".
The focus of this Workshop is to support this vision by providing a forum
where industry and users can interact and acquire important information
about recent related events on the development of biometrics technologies,
new applications, measurements and standards developments.
The Workshop schedule will include presentations given by speakers from:
Industry including biometrics vendors
Government users that have or are implementing biometrics technologies in
their organizations
Academia and Government organizations conducting research of biometrics
technologies
Users and industrial organizations developing different aspects of
biometrics standards
