It's relatively easy to set up an init script to run clamd as whatever 
user you prefer (Fedora/Red Hat/CentOS does this), which is really the 
best thing to do.  Writing the entire file through a socket to clamd 
increases your overhead, and IIRC, scanning streams doesn't work as well 
as scanning files due to some limitation of clamAV.

I tend to prefer running with the pyclamav module.  Otherwise, I 
recommend running clamd as a user with access to the files which must be 
scanned.
