I see Tue/Wed different here (Fedora 23).
In any case this is not a coreutils issue
as those strings come from the locale database:

$ locale day
Sunday;Monday;Tuesday;Wednesday;Thursday;Friday;Saturday
$ LANG="mr_IN.utf8" locale day
रविवार;सोमवार;मंगळवार;बुधवार;गुरुवार;शुक्रवार;शनिवार
