If you plan to upgrade your DVD player for your TV to a DVD recorder,
the DVD-R is the standard.

Either format will make good DVDs. The major difference in burning
coasters is the burn speed. I use DVD-R with my Pioneer DVR-111 burner
and rarely burn DVDs faster than 4X. Haven't made a coaster with DVD-R
disks in ages.
