I have a number of clients who have had less than positive experiences with
self inflicted "upgrades to XP"

It appears that the OS works well with new machines and with mainstream
hardware and printers but there are a whole raft of issues with older HW,
Printing from DOS based programs, Non CDC complient USB devices, Security, and
interoperability with other OS's

Bottom line: If you don't have a clear need to upgrade to XP as well as the
willingness to rat out all the drivers and patches, it probably isn't a good
move for the average user who maintains their own machine. Wait till you
upgrade the machine and have confirmation that all your HW and programs will
work with it.
