Hi there!

I believe it was another post on this list that indicated 115kbps as the port
speed.  Also, the behavior of what I was seeing on the screen indicated a speed
mis-match at all rates up to 56000 (I worked with serial ports quite a bit in the
past).

I am using a palm III with the modem cable and the software I mentioned above. 
Setting the speed to 115200, 8-N-1 with RTS/CTS flow control in the "online"
programs' Communications menu was all that was required for me to get the output. 
Turning on logging with a timestamp was also handy.

What you see, by the way, is just dmesg output.  It is handy, but Cobalt support
will have to help you with fixing the problems without simply re-formatting the
disk using their network recovery CD.  I never did figure out what was wrong with
my disk: after mounting swap it would reboot.  I had backups, though, so restoring
from the CD and the backups was the best route for me.
